Question 9
The eighth night of Muharram is dedicated to al-Qasim ibn al-Hasan (peace be upon him), so people light candles, apply henna, and put out sweets and the like on the claim that it is al-Qasim’s wedding. Is this compatible with the grief of the tragedy of Ashura? And is the account of al-Qasim’s wedding and his marriage contract with Lady Sukayna correct?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
There is no problem with it so long as these are rituals intended to express grief for al-Qasim ibn al-Hasan and to remember the tragedy of Karbala.
