I suffer from psychological and mental illnesses, including severe depression, partial schizophrenia, hysteria, absent-mindedness, partial memory loss and thoughts outside my conscious awareness. Question 50 · daily-life

Relying on a Non-Muslim Seller About How Fish Was Caught

You previously answered concerning fish and their lawful taking: if I know a fish has scales and am reasonably assured that it was lawfully taken, it may be eaten, because lawful taking of fish consists of taking it alive from the water or catching it with fishing equipment, whether the fisherman is Muslim or non-Muslim. Imported fish are usually caught by nets or fishing equipment, removed from the water and left to die outside it, so they are lawfully taken even if the fisherman is non-Muslim. My question is: may reasonable assurance be based on the statement of a Christian or non-Muslim seller that the fish sold in Western markets was caught in the manner you described? What if the seller says he does not know how it was caught—may we then buy and eat the fish he sells?

Question 51 · daily-life

Animal-Derived Food Additives and E-Numbers

In the West, many food ingredients and additives used in pastries, ice cream, bread, sweets and many other products can be of animal origin. They are often identified by E-numbers. For example, E471 mono- and diglycerides are synthetic fats produced from glycerol and natural fatty acids, mainly of plant origin but sometimes from animal fats. E452 polyphosphates may also be produced in Europe from animal bones. There are dozens of other amino-acid ingredients of animal origin. Are such ingredients forbidden?

Question 58 · daily-life

Carmine, Cochineal, E120, and Red Food Coloring

What is the ruling on red coloring derived from the carmine insect and used in food products to give red, pink and related colors, including children's sweets, juices, cake and some meats such as mortadella? Ingredients may identify it as E120, RED40, cochineal or carmine, and sometimes products instead say only that the red color is from ‘natural substances.’ Some products no longer list the familiar names, and the coloring appears to affect only color rather than taste. As I understand it, the insect may simply be ground and mixed with water rather than chemically transformed, and black particles from the insect can sometimes be visible. May such products be eaten or drunk, or used externally, for example in red lip balm or women's lipstick when a small amount may sometimes be swallowed?

Question 68 · daily-life

Eating Chicken Sold in Iranian Markets

I apologize for asking about an issue for which your answers already exist, but applying the ruling has caused disagreement among some believers: whether chicken in Iran may be eaten. We are certain that the chickens are not slaughtered by an automatic machine, and slaughterhouses generally observe the other conditions such as facing the qibla, mentioning God's name and severing the four vessels. However, in some slaughterhouses the electrical stunning bath used to weaken the chickens is set above the permitted level and causes some chickens to die. Many believers therefore avoid eating chicken while others do not. Must we personally attend and inspect every slaughterhouse to know how the slaughter is performed? May chicken sold in Iranian markets be eaten?

Question 84 · daily-life

Tube Feeding, Treatment Withdrawal, and Euthanasia

I work as a physician and have a question about a recurring medical situation. Some patients suffer a severe stroke that may cause complete loss of consciousness, while the patient remains alive and may still feel pain, as indicated by movements of the hands and legs in response to pain. We provide such patients with available treatments so long as the patient can tolerate the treatment or it may improve the condition; for example, if a stroke patient also has cancer, we may not give cancer treatment if it will not improve the patient's overall condition. My questions are: 1. Some such patients already have a feeding tube connected directly to the stomach through the abdominal wall because of another prior illness. After the stroke and loss of consciousness, the family may ask us to stop nutrition through the tube. This may hasten death, which is expected soon anyway because of the stroke and its complications. May I comply with the family's request? 2. If the family pressures me to stop tube feeding, especially where local culture and customs differ from ours and most people are atheists, may I comply? 3. If the stroke patient is sufficiently conscious and personally asks that tube feeding be stopped, or had previously told relatives that if he lost consciousness they should inform the doctor of his wish to stop treatment and nutrition, may I comply with the patient's wish? 4. Finally, what is the legal ruling on active euthanasia, which, praise be to God, is not permitted in Sweden?

Seizures, Suspected Jinn, and Seeking Treatment

My fourteen-year-old daughter is ill and sometimes can barely walk. While she is asleep, if we try to wake her or she awakens to a sound, she begins to tremble intermittently. The trembling intensifies and causes pain in her limbs and back, then her whole body becomes rigid and she loses consciousness. When she awakens she cries; we later understood that she cries because she loses the ability to speak in addition to severe body pain, and she may be unable to stand on her legs, with abnormal walking the next day. She remains in this condition. I have not taken her to a doctor because I suspect she may be affected by jinn, since we observe strange things happening in the house where we live. Is there a particular age at which I may examine young girls for injections? My Question Concerns Chemistry. There Is a Great Deal of Information Circulating About

My question concerns chemistry. There is a great deal of information circulating about the 'Illuminati,' who are said to work for the system of the Dajjal and to seek to weaken believers and bind them to this system, including through food and drink. It is claimed that many packaged foods contain chemicals, that cells from aborted fetuses are used as flavoring, that aspartame is used as a sweetener and is derived from bacteria, and that fluoride in water causes bone cancer in men and boys and causes infertility, and that the Nazis used it to make people submissive. These things are described as part of eugenics intended to reduce the population and make people obedient to the system of the Dajjal. There are also chemicals on fruits and vegetables and genetically modified foods everywhere. Some of the Ansar have discussed this as something unavoidable even if people grow vegetables themselves. Is there a solution? Is there something the Ansar of God can do about this? What are your instructions to us?

In Medicine, Students Are Required to Perform Many Practices That May Harm Patients in

In medicine, students are required to perform many practices that may harm patients in the long or short term, and these practices are also common. Dental students are required to use this filling on patients in the medical college even though alternative, non-toxic solutions exist. Likewise, pediatricians are required to give vaccines to children even though vaccines contain substances such as thimerosal. What should a person do if wishing to practice a profession whose training requires these harmful practices? Does the end justify the means? If a person wants to practice a profession such as those mentioned, the person must perform things that may cause real harm, and if the student objects, the student may have no choice and may be expelled.
