Friday Prayer, Eid Prayer, Zakat, and Family Authority in a Non-Believing Household
We are a family of six and are not financially independent. We do not attend Friday prayer or Eid prayer and do not pay zakat al-fitra because the head of the family is not a believer and he is the one who pays on our behalf. The questions are: Are Friday prayer and Eid prayer obligatory upon us? How do we pay zakat on wealth—does each of us pay for himself? If a person does not have the money, may he borrow it and repay the loan later? What about previous years during which we were believers but did not pay zakat? May we leave the house without his permission for matters connected with the call? Sometimes he asks my two children to go with him to a mosque for Friday prayer, Eid prayer or occasions held by those of another school. What is the correct action: should they go or not?
