Question 42
Regarding supporters of Imam al-Mahdi in Tal Afar, Balad and other areas attacked by terrorists and ISIS: may the believers join tribes or security forces defending areas under terrorist attack for purposes of self-defense, especially when such areas are besieged and no army is present to defend them? We have heard that the groups in Tal Afar and Balad are besieged, and the office in Najaf has received several questions about this.
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
Self-defense does not require permission. May God grant you success and guide your steps. Anyone who sees that his city is being attacked or may be attacked has the right to do whatever he can for its defense. May God protect you and keep all harm away from you. Believers in other areas such as Baghdad should also prepare and be ready for the worst. Peace be upon you, and God's mercy and blessings.
