Question 40
During the Iraqi army's entry into Kuwait, I bought furniture offered in the market or by individuals, and I still use it in my home. Is it lawful or unlawful? Must I pay khums on it if I know it was stolen, or if I do not know?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
If you know that an item was stolen, you must return it or its value to its owners if you know them. If you do not know them, give its value in charity. If you do not know that it was stolen, nothing is required of you even if it was in fact stolen.
