Question 21

Please provide me with a biography of Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan. Bakr al-Sukayni 25 Safar 1426 AH In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Would those responsible for the website kindly provide us with a biography of the venerable Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan-may his shadow endure-and a personal photograph if possible? May Allah grant you success. Talib Khayri 16 Rabi al-Awwal 1426 AH

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. 1. Born in Basra, Iraq. 2. A graduate of the College of Engineering, Civil Engineering. 3. He studied in the religious seminary in holy Najaf. 4. Imam al-Mahdi sent him to reform the religious seminary in holy Najaf more than approximately five years ago, and he carried out scholarly, practical, and economic reform in the seminary and in society generally. (A) Scholarly reform: Because the Quran was not taught in the seminary, he taught the Quran there and spread the cause of Imam al-Mahdi (a). (B) After the disbelieving Saddam defiled the Noble Quran, he publicly declared that Saddam had done this to draw near to the accursed Satan. Because of this declaration, he was pursued by Saddam’s disbelieving forces. He was the only person in Najaf to take this matter upon himself forcefully, and he said that Saddam wrote his own death and the end of his rule with his own hand when he wrote the Quran in impure blood. He objected to the scholars of Najaf, and to Muslim scholars generally, for their silence regarding this heinous act by the disbelieving Saddam. (C) Practical reform: Because the seminary had abandoned enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and attending to the conditions of the people, he proclaimed everywhere in the seminary the necessity of attending to the people’s religious and living conditions and removing oppression and injustice from them. (D) Economic reform: He undertook what is known as the revolution against financial corruption in the religious seminary. Many seminary students supported him in this matter. One day he entered upon one of the agents of the religious authorities with more than thirty students and asked him to inform that religious authority of the financial corruption and the necessity of reforming it. He also sent students from the religious seminary to the religious authorities and demanded that they reform the financial corruption in their offices, represented by lavishing money upon their agents while leaving the poor, orphans, and widows to writhe from hunger. (E) Approximately three years ago, during the era of the tyrant Saddam, he announced that he was the messenger of Imam al-Mahdi (a). Saddam’s disbelieving forces pursued him, but Allah, by His grace, Glorious and Exalted is He, saved him from the hand of that tyrant. He now calls to Imam al-Mahdi (a), to the necessity of supporting him, and to establishing him in authority. Thank you. This is extremely brief and general, not detailed, and we apologize for not providing detail. The Supporters of Imam al-Mahdi May Allah establish him upon the earth
