Question 112
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and prayers and peace be upon Muhammad, the Imams, and the Mahdis; may He grant them abundant peace. To proceed: To my father and master; to the strong pillar; to the oppressed one whose right has been diminished; to the river of Talut by which the nation of Muhammad (s) was tested; and to his exceptional companions, who are the best nation brought forth for the people, in whom the pillars of the heavenly city and its gate, outward and inward, take pride: peace from Allah, the Exalted, His mercy, and His blessings be upon you. The purport of this humble letter, issued by the simplest and most contemptible human being walking upon the face of this earth, is the pledge of allegiance to my father. Here I state it-or have stated it-before Allah, the Exalted, His Messenger (s), the Commander of the Believers, the Imams, and the Mahdis (a). If only I knew, my master, whether to call this the joy of meeting, because this is the first time my pen writes these words to you-and what words they are-or an hour of grief and sorrow as I see with my own eyes how creation forsakes you. I say: O Aaron, what do you think of a nation that has sanctified its calf and whose lowing has become the lord most high? Indeed, we belong to Allah and to Him we return. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: ‘Their appointed time is the morning. Is the morning not near?’ As for my masters, the Supporters, I say: Be patient, my cousins. They see it as distant, and we see it as near. Those who oppressed the family of Muhammad will know to what destination they will return. The outcome belongs to the Godwary. Peace, Allah’s mercy, and His blessings be upon you. Sender: The contemptible servant who falls short, Abu Ahmed al-Jubouri
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. Peace, Allah’s mercy, and His blessings be upon you. I ask Allah to grant you and all believing men and women success in every good and to keep every evil from you. He is my Guardian, and He protects the righteous. Blessed are you and all those who believed and acted upon the testament of the Messenger of Allah (s), and became certain that it is Muhammad’s (s) shot that never misses its target across the centuries, because it is Allah’s shot, Glorious and Exalted: ‘You did not throw when you threw, but Allah threw, so that He might test the believers with a good test from Him. Indeed, Allah is Hearing, Knowing’ ([261]). Know that Allah is the One who remembers before those who remember do so. It is narrated from Abu Abdullah (a): ‘A man came to the Prophet (s) and said, “O Messenger of Allah, does Allah ask about anything besides the obligatory duties?” He said, “No.” The man said, “By the One who sent you with the truth, I will not draw near to Allah with anything besides them.” He said, “Why?” The man said, “Because Allah made my form ugly.”’ He said: ‘The Prophet (s) remained silent, and Gabriel (a) descended and said, “O Muhammad, your Lord conveys peace to you and says: Convey peace to My servant so-and-so and tell him, ‘Are you not content that tomorrow I will raise you among those who are secure?’” The man said, “O Messenger of Allah, has Allah mentioned me with Him?” He said, “Yes.” The man said, “By the One who sent you with the truth, there is nothing through which one may draw near to Allah that I will leave without drawing near to Him through it”’ ([262]). Benefit, then, from Allah’s remembrance of you, for had He not remembered you, you would not have been guided. I advise myself first, and then advise you, with what the Messenger of Allah (s) advised every human being: ‘Son of Adam, do good and leave evil; then you will be one who proceeds generously and rightly’ ([263]).
