Question 116

My brother saw a vision in which he saw me in a dream with my legs bound, suspended by one hand, and being lowered into a basin of water. The basin was made of marble and contained water until my body was submerged. They told my brother, ‘We will do this to you as well’-meaning the same as me. Sender: Ibrahim Rughayl

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. Binding the legs means preventing the human being from moving. For the body this movement is spatial, but for the spirit it is not; rather, it is movement from truth to falsehood or from falsehood to truth. In the vision it means fixing the direction of the spirit’s movement. Water purifies the body from impurity in this world, and for the spirit it represents purity. Thus binding your legs and immersing you in water means fixing the direction of your spirit’s movement toward the purity realized through allegiance to Allah’s guardian and Allah’s Proof over His creation.
