Question 135
When performing ablution, is it permissible to wash the left hand twice, as with the right hand, given that this will lead to wiping the head and feet with recommended water? Sender: Abbas Tahir
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. In ablution, it is better to suffice with one handful and one washing for the face and hands. This was the ablution of Muhammad (s) and Ali (a). Pouring multiple handfuls upon the limb being washed before completing its washing does not mean multiple washings. The limb’s second washing occurs after its washing has been completed. It is recommended in order to make the ablution thorough if it is possible that water did not reach some part of the washed limb during the first washing, and it does not impair the wiping. Thus it is permissible to wash the left hand twice and then complete the ablution by wiping the head and feet.
