Question 172

Is it permissible to implant a woman’s egg, fertilized with her husband’s sperm, in another womb or an artificial womb, whether the other womb belongs to one of the husband’s unmarriageable kin or to someone who is not among his unmarriageable kin? This would be because the wife’s womb is incapable or absent.

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. It is permissible to implant a woman’s egg, fertilized with her husband’s sperm, in her own womb. It is not permissible to implant the egg in another woman’s womb, even if the other woman is a second wife of the man. Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan Vicegerent and Messenger of Imam al-Mahdi (a)
