Question 207

There are obstacles such as rivers and lakes between me and Friday prayer, and no means of crossing are available. If I go by vehicle or on foot, I must travel more than twenty kilometers. Is Friday prayer obligatory upon me, or does the noon prayer suffice and take its place? Adnan Farhan Salman / Wasit-Zubaydiyah

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. If the distance between you and Friday prayer is twenty kilometers, attendance is not obligatory upon you, although attending is better for you if means of transportation and crossing become available. Know that the reward is commensurate with the hardship. Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan Vicegerent and Messenger of Imam al-Mahdi (a)
