Question 209

A person underwent surgery for a fracture. One of his legs remains suspended while the other is free. What is his ruling regarding wiping the top of the foot during ablution when his hand cannot reach the suspended leg? Does he suffice with wiping one foot, or does he perform dry ablution?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. He performs dry ablution if he is unable to perform ablution with water. In this case, he is unable to wipe one of his feet, so his ruling is to perform dry ablution. Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan Vicegerent and Messenger of Imam al-Mahdi (a)
