Question 303

Is it true that Umm al-Banin (a) had a son named Uthman ibn Ali? Sender: A female supporter - Kuwait

Supporters Response:

In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Intensely Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send His prayers upon Muhammad and his family, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. Sheikh al-Mufid mentioned him in al-Irshad, as did others, and said that he was killed with Imam al-Husayn (a) in Karbala. It was mentioned that he was either eleven or twenty-three years old. He was the brother of Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas (a) through both his mother and father. He was honored by Imam al-Mahdi’s salutation upon him in Ziyarat al-Nahiyah al-Muqaddasah, in which he (a) said: “Peace be upon Uthman, son of the Commander of the Believers, namesake of Uthman ibn Mazun. May Allah curse the one who shot him with an arrow, Khawli ibn Yazid al-Asbahi al-Iyadi al-Darimi” ([389]). It was narrated from Ali that he said: “I named him only after my brother Uthman ibn Mazun” ([390]). It was narrated that Uthman ibn Mazun was the Messenger of Allah’s foster brother, that he kissed him at his death and wept over him, and that he placed stones on his grave and said: “So that by them the grave of my brother may be known” ([391]). It was also narrated that when Ruqayyah died, the Messenger of Allah (s) addressed her, saying: “Join our righteous predecessor Uthman ibn Mazun and his companions” ([392]). Many other virtues of his were narrated. The Scientific Committee Supporters of Imam al-Mahdi (may Allah establish him upon the earth) Sheikh Nazim al-Uqayli
