Question 305
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and his family, the Imams and the Mahdis. Peace be upon you, my master, guardian, and father Ahmed. May my Lord’s prayers be upon you, upon your forefathers the Imams, and upon your descendants the Mahdis. My master, what is the interpretation of the two verses: ‘Indeed, when those who are mindful of Allah are touched by a visitation from Satan, they remember, and behold, they see clearly. But their brothers draw them further into error, then they do not relent’ ([13])?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and his family, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. The Exalted said: ‘Accept forgiveness, command what is right, and turn away from the ignorant ……… But their brothers draw them further into error, then they do not relent’ ([14]). Allah, Glorious and Exalted, commands the Messenger (s) to turn away from the ignorant and not argue with them, because they do not seek the truth. Rather, when they are debated, they persist in their ignorance, and the devils-their brothers-lead them astray and drive them to advance further and further into the depths of this losing confrontation. Ignorance and Satan are brothers whom darkness unites. The Exalted said: ‘And if an incitement from Satan incites you, seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is Hearing, Knowing. Indeed, when those who are mindful of Allah are touched by a visitation from Satan, they remember, and behold, they see clearly’ ([15]). The believer is light and is from the light, while Satan is darkness and is from the darkness. If darkness touches the believer, clouds his mirror, and obscures his insight-‘And if an incitement from Satan incites you … when they are touched by a visitation from Satan’-he seeks refuge in the Light, Glorious and Exalted, remembers Him, and seeks refuge in His light from the darkness that touched him. The light then encompasses him, the darkness that touched him clears away, and his insight returns to him: ‘seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is Hearing, Knowing … they remember, and behold, they see clearly.’ Our entry into this worldly life is itself only one phase among the phases of darkness and Satan touching us. Those who are mindful remember and return to their origin, the Light from which they came: ‘Those who believe and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, in the remembrance of Allah hearts find rest’ ([16]). Ahmed Alhasan
