Question 420
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you, O family of Muhammad. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon the Yamani of the family of Muhammad (s) and his good and pure descendants. Peace and the blessings of Allah be upon your supporters. My master, these blessed verses occur in the Quran: ‘We certainly tested the people of Pharaoh before them, and a noble messenger came to them, saying, “Hand over to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am a trustworthy messenger to you”’ ([24]). Who is this messenger? What are the limits of his infallibility such that he says, ‘Hand over to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am a trustworthy messenger to you’? What is the trustworthiness he attributed to himself? Was there a messenger from the Imam (a) before you, and what were the limits of his mission? Was it specifically to the religious seminary or to all people? Praise be to Allah alone. Sender: Shaykh Iyad - Iran
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. The Exalted said: ‘We certainly tested the people of Pharaoh before them, and a noble messenger came to them, saying, “Hand over to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am a trustworthy messenger to you. Do not exalt yourselves against Allah; indeed, I bring you a clear authority. I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. If you do not believe me, then leave me alone.” Then he called upon his Lord, “These are indeed a criminal people.” So, “Travel by night with My servants; indeed, you will be pursued. And leave the sea parted, for they are an army destined to be drowned”’ ([25]). The verses speak about Moses (a). This is clear from the beginning-‘the people of Pharaoh’-and the end-‘they are an army destined to be drowned.’ They were presented as an example so that perhaps the people in the time of the Messenger of Allah Muhammad (s) and in the time of the Riser would take heed through them. Moses (a) was also a riser, and people had been given glad tidings of him just as they were given glad tidings of the Riser of the family of Muhammad. The Exalted said: ‘We desired to show favor to those who were oppressed upon the earth, make them leaders, and make them the inheritors; to establish them upon the earth; and to show Pharaoh, Haman, and their soldiers through them what they feared’ ([26]). Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Ahmed Alhasan Rabi al-Awwal 1431 AH
