Question 513
Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. I would like to know Sayyed Ahmed’s (a) view regarding whether vinegar of its two kinds-sour and thickened-is permissible or prohibited. Is it lawful or unlawful? I would also like to know the Sayyed’s view regarding the permissibility of chicken slaughtered in Brazil, whose slaughter was undertaken by religious bodies such as the office of Sayyed al-Shahid al-Sadr. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send abundant prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. Regarding vinegar made for eating, there is no problem with it as long as it is not intoxicating. Regarding slaughtered chicken: if it was slaughtered according to the religious conditions-the slaughterer being Muslim, facing the qibla, pronouncing the name of Allah, and severing the four neck vessels-it is lawful … otherwise, it is unlawful. This must therefore be ascertained. May Allah grant you success in every good.
