Question 536
To my master and the son of my Imam, Sayyed Imam Ahmed Alhasan-may Allah protect him and make his steps firm. Peace be upon you, O Household of the Messenger of Allah, mine of knowledge, and wellspring of mercy. My master, I have come to you with a question that has long perplexed my thought and taken much time and effort from me, yet I reached no answer and did not grasp the meaning. It is this, my master: why did only four women attain perfection-Lady Mary, Lady Asiya, Lady Khadija, and the pure and exalted Lady al-Zahra, my guardian, may my Lord’s prayers be upon her? My master, would you, as her son and beloved, tell me in a scholarly and doctrinal manner so that I may return to my companions happy and delighted with the answer? Bring it to me from the source of knowledge and the son of the greatest Prophet, may my Lord’s prayers be upon him. I await you, my master, filled with longing to meet and serve you and to attain the honor of striving beneath your banner. May the Lord of lords and Causer of causes protect you, make you firm, care for you, and support you. May you remain concealed under the care of the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Sender: al-Sayyed al-Imam - Gulf
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. The claim that only four women attained perfection is incorrect. What is correct is that every person has a station with Allah, Glorious and Exalted is He, according to that person’s knowledge and sincerity, whether the person is a man or a woman. As for the merit of a particular person-that the person is better than all who preceded them, better than the people of their time, or even better than all people-this is established only by a text from Allah, Glorious and Exalted is He, concerning that person through His messengers. It has been established that Fatima is the Lady of the Women of the Worlds through the report of the Messenger (s), transmitting from Allah, Glorious is He, Knower of the unseen. It has also been established that Mary, Asiya, and Khadija have merit and a station with Allah. But the matter is not limited to them; there are many women who have merit and a station with Allah. Indeed, among them is one better than these: Zaynab (a), daughter of Ali (a), is the best of the women of the worlds after her mother Fatima (a). Thus, your statement that only these four women possess merit is imprecise. Know that the door remains open until the Day of Resurrection for every woman to become one of the best women of the worlds through her deeds and sincerity. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Ahmed Alhasan Muharram al-Haram, 1432 AH
