Question 593
Peace be upon you. Is a black cat one of the jinn, and how can one get rid of it? Is it permissible to summon believing jinn? Does frankincense attract a type of jinn? Can a jinn touch a person, possess him, harm him, and kill him? Can a jinn take shape and appear while one is awake in the form of an animal species? What is the best amulet for protection from the jinn? Thank you. Sender: Ali Abd al-Karim - Kuwait
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. The jinn can touch some animals, direct them partially, and move them partially in the direction they want, just as they touch a human being and afflict him partially through the loss of control over his behavior, speech, and actions. The best protection from the jinn is to take refuge in Allah’s vicegerent in your age, in the Noble Quran, and in the words of Allah, Glorious and Exalted is He, even if they are a narrated sacred hadith, or even that which is sound from the Torah and the Gospel. Summoning the jinn is possible and permissible if it is for a preferable and religiously legitimate purpose. But you must know that most jinn lie, that they are present in large numbers everywhere, and that they can easily deceive the person who summons them. In addition, they can easily harm the one who summons them, because he usually suffers from the illness of the ego and is therefore very weak before them. Their harm to a human being includes psychological harm, which is known to everyone, and physical illnesses. The notion that a jinn kills a human being directly is incorrect, for it has no authority to do this. But it can touch a human being, harm him psychologically, and cause him to harm himself and perhaps also harm others. It can cause a human being physical illnesses in many ways, including, for example, transferring germs to his food, drink, and breath. Mentioning Allah’s name when eating and drinking and in every circumstance repels their evil, Allah willing. May Allah grant you success and guide your steps. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Ahmed Alhasan Muharram al-Haram, 1432 AH
