In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. My brother, this question of yours was answered by Imam al-Sadiq (a) when someone asked him about the great number of Shia. The Imam (a) said, ‘If only the described number-three hundred and a little over ten-were completed, what you desire would occur …’ (^[92]). Imam al-Sadiq (a) continues by explaining the characteristics of their true Shia. From this we understand that the relief awaited by humanity comes with the completion of the prepared supporting number. This completion is not merely material; more important than material completion is spiritual and cognitive completion. In other words, the preparation of that number is their knowledge of monotheism and acting upon it according to what Allah, Glorious is He, has willed. In this way, this nation-which is the sign of the occurrence of relief-is the one that fulfills the divine purpose of creation: for the human being to be an image reflecting the character of his Lord, Glorious is He. For this great objective, the prophets, messengers, and successors (a) were sent. Praise be to Allah alone, alone, alone.
