Question 775

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you, my master and guardian Ahmed Alhasan. I ask Allah to make us steadfast upon your authority and support, and by His mercy-He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy-to record us among those martyred before you. For those of us who are not Arabs, the Saudi government has made going to Mecca to perform the pilgrimage difficult by not providing travel visas, demanding many certificates, and other measures. Add to this that it costs a great deal of money that will go to funding a criminal, illegitimate government that worships the idols of this age and commits forbidden acts. Therefore, there is no way for us at the present time to practice the pilgrimage correctly and through a lawful path. Even if we appoint someone else to perform the pilgrimage on our behalf, this cannot be done without contributing to funding a corrupt regime controlled by thieves. My question to Imam Ahmed Alhasan (a) is: Is there a visitation we can perform, or during which we can perform the pilgrimage rites in the pilgrimage season, whose reward equals that of the actual pilgrimage, without going to Mecca-here in the West or in other countries of the world? Sender: Sayyid Abdullah - Morocco

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. The pilgrimage is obligatory. But if you are unable to perform the pilgrimage and want to perform a deed and act of obedience from which you obtain reward during the days of the pilgrimage, then visit al-Husayn (a).
