Question 140

In investing money through mudaraba, the known arrangement is that the return is a percentage of profits rather than a fixed amount on the principal. For example, the profit on one million dinars is split equally whether profits are small or large. Is this permissible? What if instead the agreement is for a fixed monthly return such as 50,000 or 100,000 on the million?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

There is no problem with mudaraba or taking a percentage of the profits.
