Question 110

Fish are sometimes kept alive for sale in a small wooden cart with only a little water that does not fully cover their bodies, in order to keep them alive longer. If a fish dies in this condition, is it an unlawful dead animal?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

There is no problem with the permissibility of fish that die in a container with a small amount of water that does not completely cover them, such that some atmospheric air reaches the fish's gills.
