Is it necessary for me to have an official identity document stating that I am Muslim? My master, I do not have an official Islamic identity, and I fear for my family because they have threatened to kill themselves if they discover that I have become Muslim. My family are idol-worshippers and Hindus. Is an official identity document required?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
You are not required to have an official state identity document on which your religion is written and which states that you are Muslim, especially if this would cause harm to you or to your relatives. It is sufficient that you are a Muslim who believes in the truth and bears witness to the truth in which you believe.
