Question 191
Is it permissible to summon spirits, whether believing or unbelieving, and can reports transmitted through such practices be believed?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
Summoning jinn is not difficult, but it is dangerous. Most humans who engage in this eventually end up being touched by the jinn themselves and played with by them. Reports from jinn cannot be accepted as true because you do not know a jinn's condition, faith, or trustworthiness so as to believe what he says, especially when among them are unbelievers and hypocrites. Lying is a tool and means for achieving what they want. Some jinn are frivolous and behave like children without any rational goal. They are present around you, so as soon as someone calls for jinn they crowd around him, answer his call, and turn him into a toy and a joke for their amusement.
