Question 42
I am now asking about the waiting period, because I did not know that I was considered divorced until Imam Ahmad al-Hasan informed me. I am also asking about the religious divorce certificate. The Imam requested in his answer that I write my name and my husband's name, and I did so. When will the religious divorce certificate be written for me?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
What is required during the waiting period is that the divorced woman not marry. Your waiting period after the divorce has already passed and ended, so there is no reason for you to observe another waiting period. As for the divorce certificate, you can obtain it from the religious court in Najaf al-Ashraf. There is an appointed religious judge there, Sayyid al-Tahir Hasan al-Hammami—may God preserve him. I hope that those responsible for the religious court in Najaf al-Ashraf will open a website for the religious court, or create a section on one of the official websites of the Call, so that the believers—may God preserve them—can communicate with them from every place on Earth, God willing.
