Question 117

A man has been married for about two weeks and hopes for righteous offspring who will support the Qa'im and the Mahdis. Are there recommended practices before intercourse, such as particular supplications or prayers?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

I explained this in Al-Shara'i, and I quote the text for you: [It is recommended for a man who intends to consummate the marriage to pray two rak'ahs and supplicate afterward. When he instructs the woman to come to him, he should ask her also to pray two rak'ahs and supplicate. Both should be in a state of ritual purity. When she comes to him, he should place his hand on the front of her head and say: ‘O God, according to Your Book I married her, in Your trust I took her, and by Your words I made her private parts lawful to me. If You decree something for me in her womb, make it a sound Muslim and do not make it a share for Satan.’ It is recommended that consummation take place at night, that he mention God's name at intercourse, and that he ask God Almighty to grant him a sound male child.] Al-Shara'i al-Islam, vol. 3.
