Question 99
Spiritual treatment for supposed effects of jinn has become common, especially among women. Some male practitioners treat women alone in locked or closed rooms and prevent anyone else from entering, even though the practitioner is not a mahram, claiming that treatment requires privacy with the patient. 1. What is the legal ruling on such seclusion, and does it matter whether the practitioner is trustworthy? 2. Is there really spiritual treatment that requires being alone with the patient? 3. May a male practitioner touch the body of an unrelated woman, with or without a barrier, under the claim of treatment? Finally, what advice do you give believers to close the doors through which Satan may enter?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
1. Such seclusion is impermissible and forbidden, and there is no difference between a trustworthy person and anyone else. 2. There is no need to be alone with the patient. 3. It is not permissible; this is a forbidden act. My advice is that believers avoid forbidden seclusion, because it is one of Satan's doors. Do not approach it; may God have mercy on you.
