Question 23
May a person rely on television, public announcements, or similar means in some Muslim countries for determining the beginning of Fajr, or must he investigate it himself? What if he does not know how to determine the times?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
Television, announcers, and similar means are like a timetable. Some of their times must first be checked to determine their accuracy and conformity with the religiously prescribed time. As stated previously: a timetable may be used if it agrees with the religious times, but it must first be examined and checked for how closely it matches those times before relying on it.
