Question 12 - The Enlightening Answer Across the Ether, Vol 1

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. When Allah spoke to Moses (a), He said to him, ‘When you come for intimate discourse, bring with you one whom you are better than.’ Moses (a) encountered no one whom he dared say he was better than. He left the people and began going through the kinds of animals until he passed a mangy dog. He said, ‘I will take this one,’ put a rope around its neck, and set out with it. When he had gone some distance, Moses (a) looked at the dog and said to it, ‘I do not know in what tongue you glorify Allah, so how can I be better than you?’ Then Moses (a) released the dog and went to the intimate discourse. The Lord said, ‘O Moses, where is what I commanded you to bring?’ Moses (a) said, ‘My Lord, I did not find it.’ The Lord said, ‘O son of Imran, had you not released the dog, I would have erased your name from the register of prophethood’ (^[7]). I, the lowly servant, never imagine that I am better than a mangy dog. Rather, I see myself as a grave sin standing before a Compassionate, Merciful Lord. Ahmed Alhasan
