Question 19

Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah the Exalted be upon you. I hope you will kindly clarify an issue for us: are you the vicegerent of the Imam, or his son? Fayiz al-Iraqi 22 Safar 1426 AH

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan is the messenger of Imam al-Mahdi, Muhammad ibn al-Hasan (peace be upon them both), to all people. He is also the first of the twelve vicegerents of the Mahdi after his death (a), as it is stated in the report that after the Mahdi there will be twelve Mahdis ([47]). Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan is from the progeny of Imam al-Mahdi (a)-that is, Imam al-Mahdi is his forefather. It is correct to say that Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan is the son of Imam al-Mahdi, meaning from the descendants of Imam al-Mahdi. All of Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan’s forefathers between him and Imam al-Mahdi are no longer alive, except Imam Muhammad ibn al-Hasan himself-may Allah establish him upon His earth-just as one descended from the Messenger of Allah (s) is called his son. Imam al-Mahdi (a) has also repeatedly used the word ‘my son’ when speaking with Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan, as stated in one of the declarations: ‘My son, may I be your ransom, hasten.’ You can search for it using the search bar ([48]). He is the First of the Mahdis, and he is the first believer in the call of Imam al-Mahdi (a). The Supporters of Imam al-Mahdi May Allah establish him upon the earth
