Question 50

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. I-and I seek refuge in Allah from the ‘I’-am one of the believers in the call whom Allah blessed with this blessing. I saw a vision of Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan as though he was among those accompanying Imam al-Hujja-may Allah hasten his relief-and it was as though I recognized him personally as the Sayyid. I used to follow Sayyid Ali al-Musawi, meaning that I was from the Shaykhi sect. Please give me details concerning khums and zakat. Also, what is the Sayyid’s opinion of Indian meat imported from Kuwait? It is veal that has not been minced. Is eating it lawful or not? Sister Rasha - Basra 8 Jumada al-Awwal 1426 AH

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. Believing sister, peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. I ask Allah to grant every believing man and woman success in the good of the Hereafter and this world. Khums and zakat involve very extensive detail, but there is no harm in clarifying something. Khums belongs to the infallible Imam (a) and the Proof over creation in every age, and to his vicegerents. They may place it wherever they wish. Khums is obligatory in certain things, including money and unused-new-materials. There is no khums on the house in which a person lives, used furnishings, the car a person needs for transportation, or the source of a person’s livelihood. If a person has another house, a second car, or a second source of livelihood, khums is obligatory upon it. As for imported Indian meat and other such meat, eating it is forbidden until it is established that it was ritually slaughtered by Muslims in a correct, lawful manner. Ahmed Alhasan Jumada al-Awwal 1426 AH
