Question 49
Why do you always argue with the scholars and say that you will manifest the miracle in their presence? Why do you not send this proof to the ordinary people so they may follow you, as the Messenger of Allah did? If you say that Moses (a) argued with Pharaoh first, the answer is that Pharaoh possessed military power with which he could annihilate the Children of Israel, since they were under his rule. The scholars, by contrast, possess no such power. Finally, I request a photograph of you so that I may recognize you. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Muhammad al-Hilali - Iraq, age twenty-six 5 Jumada al-Awwal 1426 AH
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. 1. Are ordinary people slaves or free? If they are free, there now exists very abundant evidence for the truthfulness and rightfulness of the call that takes hold of every seeker of truth. It is the very same evidence of the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad (s), including miraculous matters and very many reports of the unseen that occurred with the Supporters. A small selection of them was collected, printed, and published ([118]). 2. Must every person see a miracle? Only Hudhayfa saw the pebbles glorify Allah in the hand of the Messenger of Allah (s). Only the Jewish man was spoken to by the wolf. Only his companions and supporters heard the palm trunk’s yearning for the Messenger of Allah. Only a few of the disbelievers of Quraysh saw the tree move. Likewise, there was the ewe of Umm Mabad giving milk and other miracles of his (s) ([119]). Things resembling these occurred in this call. Among the miracles is that I, the poor and submissive servant before his Lord, passed my hand over the eyes of some sheikhs of the religious seminary in Najaf at the beginning of the call, during the era of the disbelieving Saddam-may Allah curse him. The covering was removed from them, and they began to see the angels and the Kingdom of the Heavens. Material miracles occurred with some of them. After a while they disbelieved and said, ‘A sorcerer; he summons the jinn,’ and so on, as though they had not heard His words, the Exalted: ‘Even if We opened for them a gate into heaven through which they continued ascending’ ([120]). Now some of them have returned and pledged allegiance anew after having apostatized from the call in the past. My brother, you have filled my liver with pus, just as your predecessors filled the liver of the Commander of the Faithful (a) with pus. Ahmed Alhasan Jumada al-Awwal 1426 AH
