Question 80
It is stated in a sermon of Imam Ali (a) that he is the First and the Last. What is meant by this? Sender: Fadel
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. I do not think that one who reads The Allegories carefully would fail to understand the meaning of Ali’s (a) statement, ‘I am the First and I am the Last’ ([146]). Nevertheless, there is further clarification in The Interpretation of Surat al-Tawhid, which will be published soon, Allah willing.
