Question 96
Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan (a), messenger, vicegerent, and Yamani of Imam al-Mahdi: peace, Allah’s mercy, and His blessings be upon you. Concerning what appears in Volume Four of The Allegories about the likeness of Jesus who was crucified and who is the First Mahdi from among the vicegerents: it is understood that the First Mahdi’s existence at that time was in the form of light or reality. Did the First Mahdi descend as a body, or as a spirit that entered a particular body? Does the First Mahdi now live in the same body in which he was crucified? If he entered a body other than this one, can the spirit enter more than one body? I apologize if my question is discourteous before one of the vicegerents of the family of Muhammad, before whom we were commanded to submit. I am one of the Supporters, and these questions confront me when conveying the call. Peace, Allah’s mercy, and His blessings be upon you. Sender: Maytham Barzan
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. The sperm connected to the soul does not change, but in this corporeal world it can take form in more than one image ([173]). Do you not see that your corporeal image changes and is altered over time? Your image as a small child is not exactly your image as a young man: ‘Were We wearied by the first creation? Rather, they are in confusion concerning a new creation’ ([174]). The sperm intended here is the one descending from the World of Particles, not the seminal sperm; rather, it connects to the seminal sperm just as the soul connects to it. The sperm descending from the World of Particles does not have to connect to a seminal sperm for the human being to exist in this corporeal world. You see this clearly with the sperm of Jesus (a): it did not connect to a seminal sperm, but was breathed directly into Mary’s (a) womb. A human being can therefore be embodied in this corporeal world before entering it for the test-that is, before being born in it-and likewise after his test ends-that is, after his death. How many dead persons has Allah raised after their death? The Quran bears witness to this. The soul is the same and the sperm is the same; as for the corporeal image, it may be the same, or some or all of it may change. What you must understand is that a human being’s birth in this world does not mean his first creation; rather, it means his first entry into this corporeal world for the test. The human being was created before that, and the first test had already taken place for him in the World of Particles. This world in which we are is the second test.
