Question 98

It is said that the infallible Imams (a) are mentioned in the Quran. Is this correct? If it is, could you send one of the Quranic verses in which they are mentioned? Sender: Maysa Jafar al-Sadi

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. These are verses in which the Imams (a) are mentioned: ‘Indeed, in the Mother of the Book with Us, he is surely Ali, Wise’ ([177]), ([178]). ‘He said, “This is a straight path of Ali”’ ([179]), ([180]). ‘We granted them from Our mercy and made for them a truthful tongue, Ali’ ([181]), ([182]). ‘We made them Imams who guide by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, the establishment of prayer, and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us’ ([183]). ‘We made from among them Imams who guide by Our command when they were patient and were certain of Our signs’ ([184]). ‘Your guardian is only Allah, His Messenger, and those who believe-those who establish prayer and give alms while bowing’ ([185]). This is a verse in which Ali (a) and his enemies-may Allah curse them-are mentioned: ‘Know that among you is the Messenger of Allah. Were he to obey you in much of the matter, you would surely fall into hardship. But Allah has endeared faith to you, adorned it in your hearts, and made disbelief, defiance, and disobedience hateful to you. Those are the rightly guided’ ([186]).
