Question 105

In the Supplication of Lamentation: ‘O Allah, connect us to him with a connection that leads to accompanying his predecessors.’ Does the word ‘his predecessors’ here refer to Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan (a)-may Allah make us among his loyal, repentant followers? Sender: Abbas Tahir

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. The predecessors are his Household-that is, the Messenger, the Imams, and the Mahdis. The person who recites this supplication needs to pass the coming obstacle with which he will be tested-that is, the Proofs who are coming, not the past ones whose Imamate he acknowledges. The Mahdis are the ones whom the supplicant needs Allah to grant him success in following and remaining beneath their shade: ‘O Allah, connect us to him with a connection that leads to accompanying his predecessors, and make us among those who take hold of their girdles and remain beneath their shade.’
