Question 129
Is wearing transparent stockings lawful or unlawful? Is it permissible to wear gold and go out wearing it? May Allah make you firm upon the straight path, the path of the Imams and the Mahdis. Sender: Fatima Ali
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. A woman may leave her face, hands, and feet visible, and must truly cover what is other than them. Wearing stockings is therefore not obligatory for a woman. It is permissible and recommended for a woman to wear gold, but it is forbidden for her to display it before men other than her husband and unmarriageable relatives. The exception is a wedding ring, which by custom is not considered adornment; it is permissible to wear and display it before men.
