Question 144

The Garden was created from al-Husayn’s (a) light, yet Imam al-Husayn (a) seeks to enter the Garden. How does the whole-al-Husayn (a)-enter the part-the Garden?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. This question is mistaken, because the Garden being created from al-Husayn’s (a) light does not mean that the Garden is part of al-Husayn (a). Muhammad (s) was created from Allah’s light, Glorious and Exalted. According to the thinking of the person who asked this question, would Muhammad (s) therefore be part of Allah, Glorious and Exalted? ([287]). Al-Husayn (a) enters the corporeal gardens-in the first heaven-and the imaginal heavenly gardens. In the World of Light-the seventh, universal-intellect heaven-al-Husayn (a) is the Garden. Refer to The Allegories, Vols 1, 2, 3, and 4. I ask Allah to make the picture clearer to you. Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan Vicegerent and Messenger of Imam al-Mahdi (a)

↑ [287] This question results from confining one’s view to the laws of matter-bodies-and imagining that the laws of particularity and totality in the physical world are exactly the same in the worlds of the Kingdom, intellect, omnipotence, and divinity. This is an illusion, because every world has its own laws. The physical world is the world of bodies and dense material things. The World of the Kingdom is the world of forms and subtlety. The world of intellect is the world of light and reality without corporeality or form; rather, it consists of realities and lights interpenetrating one another, none occupying a space apart from another. For example, Gabriel (a) in the World of the Kingdom has a subtle Kingdom body. But when he wishes to appear in the material world, he comes in the form of Dihya al-Kalbi, one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (s), or in the form of a bird, and so on. When he returns to the Kingdom, he returns to his Kingdom body, because material things do not exist in the World of the Kingdom, and each world has its own laws. It has been narrated that Allah the Exalted created the heavens and earth from the light of Muhammad (s), Ali (a), Fatima, al-Hasan, and al-Husayn (a). It is narrated from the Messenger Muhammad (s) that he said: ‘… When Allah the Exalted wished to bring His creation into being, He split my light and created the Throne from it. The Throne is from my light, my light is from Allah’s light, and my light is superior to the Throne. Then He split the light of my brother Ali and created the angels from it. The angels are from Ali’s light, Ali’s light is from Allah’s light, and Ali is superior to the angels. Then He split the light of my daughter and created the heavens and earth from it. The heavens and earth are from the light of my daughter Fatima, the light of my daughter Fatima is from Allah’s light, and my daughter Fatima is superior to the heavens and earth. Then He split the light of my son al-Hasan and created the sun and moon from it. The sun and moon are from the light of my son al-Hasan, al-Hasan’s light is from Allah’s light, and al-Hasan is superior to the sun and moon. Then He split the light of my son al-Husayn and created Paradise and the wide-eyed maidens from it. Paradise and the wide-eyed maidens are from the light of my son al-Husayn, the light of my son al-Husayn is from Allah’s light, and my son al-Husayn is superior to Paradise and the wide-eyed maidens …’ Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 51, p. 10. Allah created the heavens and earth from the light of Fatima (a). On the premise of the question, Fatima (a) could not enter the heavens and earth, because the heavens and earth are part of Fatima’s light! In reality, she lived upon the earth, died, and was buried in it. The question is therefore flawed at its foundation because it imagines that the laws of the material world are the same as the laws of the higher worlds. Indeed, even under the laws of the material world, a part can contain the whole from certain perspectives. A mirror, the lens of an eye, or a camera is an extremely small and scarcely significant part of this world, yet the mirror, eye, or camera can contain the entire world as an image. Glory be to the One who is not questioned about what He does, while they are questioned. (Commentator.)
