Question 143

In the Verse of Purification concerning the People of the House (a), are the Prophet’s (s) wives included, or does it concern only Ali, Fatima, al-Hasan, al-Husayn, the Imams, and the Mahdis (a)? May Allah reward you with the best reward. Sheikh Zafir al-Ansari-Holy Najaf

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. The gate of sincerity to Allah, Glorious and Exalted, is open to every human being, so that he may be among those who ‘give food, despite loving it, to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, saying, “We feed you only for the face of Allah; we desire neither reward nor thanks from you”’ ([284]), and be with those whom ‘their Lord gives a purifying drink’ ([285]). This drink purifies hearts and makes the human being one of us, the People of the House. When a human being is given this purifying drink, he is completely purified: ‘to remove defilement from you … and to purify you completely’ ([286]). As for the wives of the Prophet Muhammad (s), among them was Khadija (a), and among them was one for whom the example of Noah’s wife and Lot’s wife (a) was given.
