Question 165

Must one intend the basmala for the surah after al-Fatiha, or may one pronounce the basmala without certainty as to which surah is specified and then choose the surah one wants to recite? Sheikh Jihad al-Asadi-Basra

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. The basmala is connected to the surah, and every surah has its own basmala. One must therefore specify the surah and then recite its basmala. Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan Vicegerent and Messenger of Imam al-Mahdi (a)
