Question 184

Leather is imported from foreign, non-Muslim countries and made into clothing such as jackets, or into other things such as shoes and belts. What is the ruling on wearing them during prayer and at other times, given that we do not know whether the animal was ritually slaughtered or whether the leather is pure? May Allah the Exalted guide us through you toward goodness, truth, and excellence.

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. It is not judged to have been ritually slaughtered or to be pure unless it becomes known that it was slaughtered in a religiously valid manner. Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan Vicegerent and Messenger of Imam al-Mahdi (a)
