Question 288
I have an affectionate guardian. He has seen my attraction toward your call and, at the same time, fears that I may go astray. He has permitted me only one question by which proof may be established for me so that I may know whether you are wholly upon truth or wholly upon falsehood. My question is directed to Sayyed Ahmad al-Hasan al-Yamani: there is a secret between me and the Proof, the Imam (a), which no one knows. I ask Sayyed Ahmad to ask his father, the Proof (a), what it is and send the answer to my question to the email address registered with you. You have my great thanks and gratitude. I ask you to pray for me that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, make me firm upon His religion, that I be a servant devoted and sincere to Him, and that He grant me martyrdom. Supporters Response:
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Intensely Merciful. Respected sister, you, your father, and all creation are charged with examining the proofs brought by Sayyed Ahmad al-Hasan, which are the proofs of the prophets and messengers. Through them, Sayyed Ahmad al-Hasan has established the proof against everyone. These proofs are conclusive, and you will be questioned about them. As for your request, with all respect for you and your father, if this door were opened, all people would want the same thing. Sayyed Ahmad al-Hasan would then have to tell millions of people what they conceal within themselves. This is certainly contrary to wisdom! Moreover, in our present age, such matters give rise to suspicion and accusations of sorcery and employing the jinn. The first thing people did was accuse Sayyed Ahmad al-Hasan of sorcery and employing the jinn-far be that from him. This suspicion and accusation has scarcely left any prophet or successor. Indeed, we belong to Allah and to Him we return. In view of what has preceded, such matters would give rise to doubt rather than certainty, except for one whose heart Allah Most High has illuminated with the light of the divine disposition. They would certainly be exploited by those who sow doubt and uncertainty to fight this blessed divine call. There is also an important matter that you and all people must know: miracles are in the hand of Allah Most High alone, not in the hand of a prophet, messenger, or successor. If Allah Most High permits a miracle or a wondrous sign, it occurs at the hand of Allah’s Proof; if He does not permit it, it does not occur. We therefore find that many prophets and messengers did not have miracles occur at their hands, such as Allah’s prophet Hud (a), Allah’s prophet Shuayb (a), and others. The Quran did not mention that they brought miracles. Had we lived in their age, would we have denied them for that reason?! This is the objection the deniers made to Allah’s prophet Hud (a), as Allah Most High related from them: ‘They said, “O Hud, you have brought us no clear proof, and we will not abandon our gods merely on your word, nor will we believe in you”’ ([347]). Here are some verses that I hope you and your father will examine carefully: ‘They swore by Allah their most solemn oaths that if a sign came to them, they would surely believe in it. Say, “The signs are only with Allah.” And what will make you perceive that, even if it came, they would not believe?’ ([348]). ‘Nothing prevented Us from sending the signs except that the former peoples denied them. We gave Thamud the she-c-camel as a visible sign, but they wronged her. We send signs only as a warning’ ([349]). ‘They say, “Why have signs not been sent down to him from his Lord?” Say, “The signs are only with Allah, and I am only a clear warner”’ ([350]). ‘Those who do not know say, “Why does Allah not speak to us, or why does a sign not come to us?” Those before them said the like of their statement; their hearts are alike. We have made the signs clear for a people who have certainty’ ([351]). ‘Even if you brought those who were given the Book every sign, they would not follow your direction of prayer, nor are you a follower of their direction of prayer, nor are some of them followers of the direction of prayer of others. If you followed their desires after the knowledge that came to you, you would then surely be among the wrongdoers’ ([352]). ‘If their turning away is grievous to you, then, if you are able, seek a tunnel into the earth or a ladder into the sky and bring them a sign. Had Allah willed, He would have gathered them upon guidance, so do not be among the ignorant’ ([353]). ‘They say, “Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?” Say, “Allah is able to send down a sign, but most of them do not know”’ ([354]). ‘They swore by Allah their most solemn oaths that if a sign came to them, they would surely believe in it. Say, “The signs are only with Allah.” And what will make you perceive that, even if it came, they would not believe?’ ([355]). ‘When you do not bring them a sign, they say, “Why did you not select it?” Say, “I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. These are insights from your Lord, guidance, and mercy for a people who believe”’ ([356]). ‘They say, “Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?” Say, “The unseen belongs only to Allah, so wait; indeed, I am with you among those who wait”’ ([357]). ‘Those who disbelieve say, “Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?” You are only a warner, and for every people there is a guide’ ([358]). ‘Those who disbelieve say, “Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?” Say, “Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back”’ ([359]). ‘We certainly sent messengers before you and gave them wives and descendants. It was not for a messenger to bring a sign except by Allah’s permission. For every term there is a book’ ([360]). ‘They say, “Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?” Has there not come to them the clear proof contained in the earlier scriptures?’ ([361]). ‘Rather, they say, “Jumbled dreams”; rather, “He fabricated it”; rather, “He is a poet.” Let him bring us a sign like those with which the earlier ones were sent’ ([362]). ‘We certainly sent messengers before you. Among them are those whose accounts We have related to you and those whose accounts We have not related to you. It was not for a messenger to bring a sign except by Allah’s permission. When Allah’s command comes, judgment will be rendered in truth, and there the falsifiers will lose’ ([363]). Finally, I ask Allah Most High to guide you and your father and grant you both success in supporting the Qa’im of the family of Muhammad (a). Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
