Question 295
O Shia who claim that you love the Ahl al-Bayt, why did you call al-Husayn and then leave him alone at Karbala? Please answer now. Sender: Muhammad - Algeria
Supporters Response:
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Intensely Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send His prayers upon Muhammad and his family, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. A Shia is one who is loyal to Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, abides by their command, and supports them, neither deviating from nor changing that. Not everyone who outwardly professes Shiism is a Shia. Rather, Shiism must be translated into belief and action; otherwise, it is not Shiism. The Imams (a) pointed to this meaning. Imam al-Kadhim (a) said: “Not everyone who professes our authority is a believer, but they have been made a comfort for the believers” ([388]). Those who forsook and killed Imam al-Husayn (a) were not Shia, even if some of them claimed that. This applies in all religions and creeds. Those who fought Allah’s prophet Jesus (a) had no connection to Allah’s prophet Moses, even if they claimed to follow his religion and to be his followers. Moreover, the one who killed al-Husayn (a) was Yazid ibn Muawiyah-may Allah curse him-because he was the one who ordered it. Was Yazid ibn Muawiyah-may Allah curse him-a Shia, or were he, his father, and his grandfather enemies of the family of Muhammad?! If you denounce the killing of Imam al-Husayn (a), then disavow Yazid, his father, and his grandfather. Otherwise, how can you love the killer and the slain with one heart?! You must likewise disavow everyone from the Umayyads and Abbasids who fought, killed, and displaced the family of Muhammad. Either the truth is with the family of Muhammad (a), or it is with their enemies; combining the two is impossible. What do you say? The Scientific Committee Supporters of Imam al-Mahdi (may Allah establish him upon the earth) Sheikh Nazim al-Uqayli
