Question 431
Peace be upon you. What is the evidence for ablution before reading the Quran? Sender: al-Istishraqi - Basra, Iraq
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. Ablution is not a condition for reading the Quran, and you may read the Quran even if you are not in a state of ritual purity. Touching the writing of the Quran, however, requires ritual purity. The Exalted said: ‘None touch it except the purified’ ([42]). The apparent meaning of the verse prohibits touching the written words of the Quran without ritual purity. Ahmed Alhasan Dhu al-Qidah 1431 AH
