Question 439
My jurisprudential question: Is a believing man among the supporters who believes in you entitled to enter a temporary marriage with women among the opponents or the People of the Book? Is permanent marriage to a woman from the People of the Book valid or not? I heard some statements from jurists among the supporter brothers that marriage to a woman who does not hold our belief in the Imams and the Mahdis is unlawful, but I read the opposite in your latest answer to one of the brothers: that marriage to a Muslim woman is permissible, though it is better for her to be a Yamani, if the expression is correct-‘nu’ [as printed]-a believer. My master, we need a jurisprudential book on marriage beyond what the book The Laws did not address. I also wish to ask you, my master: Is marriage to more than one woman valid without the man obtaining his wife’s consent in this matter, since there is now no woman who might accept that? Does the wife have a say in this matter, or is it religiously valid for a man to marry without consulting his wife? Is a person considered disobedient to his parents and one who cuts family ties if he disavows them when they do not believe in the Call, or what must he do? Sender: A supporter - Sweden
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. A believer may marry a Muslim woman from among the opponents or a woman from the People of the Book, but he may not marry a nasibi woman. He may marry without informing his first wife of his second marriage. It is preferable for the believer to treat his relatives well and try to guide them by every means available to him. As for the parents in particular, he must treat them well even if they do not believe. The Exalted said: ‘But if they strive to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them, but accompany them in this world with kindness and follow the way of one who turns to Me. Then to Me is your return, and I will inform you of what you used to do’ ([44]). May Allah grant you success, direct you toward every good, and grant you peace. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Ahmed Alhasan Rabi al-Awwal 1431 AH
