Question 464

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. Peace be upon you, my master and guardian, O Yamani of the family of Muhammad (a), and upon all the supporters. May Allah make us among those steadfast in allegiance, Allah willing. My master, I have a question. I ask that you answer it if I am among those who deserve an answer from you. My question is: Which is better for a girl, marriage or study? If one of the supporters proposes to marry her, is it better for her to leave her studies and marry, or complete her studies? If she refuses marriage, does she bear sin for refusing the guardians of Allah, when she refuses because they do not accept a woman continuing her studies? Is it permissible for her to marry someone outside the supporters? Is it permissible for a man to marry someone outside the supporters? This is my question. I ask you to answer me, my master, and to supplicate for me with whatever you see as good for me. Sender: Narjis - Iraq

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. If there is a conflict between marriage and education, marriage is better for the woman. She may, however, leave marriage and complete her education if she prefers education, or marry and complete her education if there is no conflict between them. A woman who believes in the truth may marry a believer in the Imams and the Mahdis from among the people of truth, or marry an opposing Muslim who does not show enmity toward the Imams or the Mahdis. For a believing woman, marriage to a non-believer is disliked, so it is better for her to avoid joining with a non-believer. As for a believing man, he may marry a believing woman or an opposing Muslim woman who does not show enmity toward the Imams or the Mahdis. He may also marry a woman of the Book, Christian or Jewish. I ask Allah for the good of the Hereafter and this world for you, to make you steadfast upon the truth and supporting the truth, and to ease your affairs toward what He, Glorious is He, loves and is pleased with. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Ahmed Alhasan Rabi al-Awwal 1431 AH
