Question 531

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send abundant prayers and peace upon Muhammad and his family, the Imams and the Mahdis. Peace be upon you, my master and guardian. May you be well every year on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr. My master, my question concerns a verse from Surah al-Mursalat: ‘When the stars are obliterated, when the heaven is opened, when the mountains are blown away, and when the messengers are appointed a time-for what day have they been deferred? For the Day of Decision. And what will make you know what the Day of Decision is? Woe that Day to those who deny’ ([54]). My question is about the Day of Decision. Does it indicate the blessed emergence? Is it one of the signs? Does ‘those who deny’ indicate those who deny you? With your permission, I ask you to clarify. Please excuse me. Until we meet, for I am longing. Sender: Muhammad al-Saffar

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. The messengers, or Allah’s vicegerents upon His earth (a), conveyed their messages and warned their peoples. They experienced denial, displacement, and killing, but Allah, Glorious and Exalted, promised them victory for themselves, their messages, and their usurped right. This victory for them occurs at three occasions: the Lesser Resurrection, the Return, and the Greater Resurrection-or the three divine events. The first is the Lesser Resurrection, which is the rising of the Riser of the family of Muhammad and his being sent to the people. The Exalted said: ‘Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers: indeed, they will be supported, and indeed, Our soldiers will be the victors. So turn away from them for a time, and watch them, for they will soon see. Do they seek to hasten Our punishment? When it descends in their courtyard, terrible will be the morning of those who were warned’ ([55]). The Exalted said: ‘We certainly gave Moses the Book, but it was disputed. Were it not for a word that had preceded from your Lord, it would have been decided between them. Indeed, they are in disturbing doubt concerning it’ ([56]). ‘Were it not for a word that had preceded from your Lord, it would have been inevitable, and there is an appointed term’ ([57]). ‘We certainly gave Moses the Book, but it was disputed. Were it not for a word that had preceded from your Lord, it would have been decided between them. Indeed, they are in disturbing doubt concerning it’ ([58]). ‘They did not divide except after knowledge came to them, out of transgression among themselves. Were it not for a word that had preceded from your Lord until an appointed term, it would have been decided between them. Indeed, those who inherited the Book after them are in disturbing doubt concerning it’ ([59]). If you reflect upon these verses, they explain clearly that Allah’s victory for the messengers (a) and for the divine method to which they called-the rule of Allah-is deferred until the Riser rises. He is the word that preceded from your Lord, the commander of Allah’s victorious soldiers, and the first Day of Decision-that is, in the Lesser Resurrection. This is in brief. If you need further detail, you can ask and I will be at your service, Allah willing. May Allah grant you success and make your steps firm. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you.
