Question 532

Peace and mercy of Allah be upon you. O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. My master, Imam, and guardian, O Riser of the family of Muhammad, peace of Allah be upon you. We ask for an interpretation of this verse, even in general. What is the interpretation of the words of the Exalted: ‘Indeed, Allah alone has knowledge of the Hour, sends down the rain, and knows what is in the wombs. No soul knows what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul knows in what land it will die. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware’ ([60])? Sender: Husayn al-Tamimi - Iraq

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send abundant prayers and peace upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis. ‘Indeed, Allah alone has knowledge of the Hour, sends down the rain, and knows what is in the wombs. No soul knows what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul knows in what land it will die. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.’ In this verse, Allah, Glorious and Exalted, explains that knowledge of the unseen belongs to Him, and that the provisions of the servants and their lives upon this earth are in His hand. Glorious and Exalted is He, He directs them however He wills, because He is All-Knowing and All-Aware of what sets right the worldly lives of the people and of what contains good for their Hereafter. It does not mean that these matters are exclusive to Him, Glorious is He, and that He cannot inform some of His servants of them. Rather, Glorious is He, He can inform some of His servants of whatever He wills of the unseen, whether through material or unseen causes. He can even place in their hands whatever He wills of worldly and otherworldly interests, which they administer through His power and strength, whether by material or unseen causes. The result is that the verse explains that no one from creation can know or do anything independently of Allah, Glorious and Exalted is He, but one can know and act through Allah’s power and strength. He is the Most Merciful of the merciful. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Ahmed Alhasan Muharram al-Haram, 1432 AH
