Question 546

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful ... O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon the Yamani of the family of Muhammad. My master and guardian, I went to perform the umrah. It was my first time, and I had not previously gone for the Hajj. Before reaching Saudi Arabia, while on the airplane, I entered the state of ihram with the intention of fulfilling a vow to enter ihram for the obligatory individual umrah. I landed in Jeddah and traveled from there by car to Mecca. The question is: The car had a roof, and I was in the state of ihram at the time. Is there any blood compensation due for that? On the airplane, they served a meal of rice with chicken, and I do not know whether the chicken had been slaughtered according to Islamic slaughter. What is the ruling on eating the chicken found in restaurants in Mecca and Medina? Most of the slaughtered meat is imported from abroad, and they write on it that it was slaughtered according to Islamic slaughter. Even when you ask the seller at the restaurant, he says that it was slaughtered according to Islamic slaughter. What is its ruling? After the umrah, I went to Medina to visit the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad (s), the Imams of al-Baqi, and Fatima (a). When I first arrived, immediately after reserving a room at the hotel and performing the ritual bath, I went to visit the Messenger of Allah (s). It was shortly before the sunset prayer. In the mosque, they offered those present a meal to break the fast consisting of seven dates and juice. I ate from it with the intention that it was hospitality from the Messenger of Allah (s), which I could not refuse. But afterward it occurred to me that the table had been provided by the Nasibis and Wahhabis. What is the religious ruling? Peace and Allah’s mercy be upon you. O Allah, send prayers upon Fatima, her father, her husband, her sons, and the secret entrusted within her. Sender: Abu Ali - Kuwait

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. If being under shade is due to necessity, such as when the only available means of transportation is a roofed car, there is no problem with it. But if it is by choice-for example, if there are two cars by which he could travel, one without a roof and the other roofed, and he voluntarily chooses the roofed car-then in this case he has committed a forbidden act and must offer a sheep as expiation, slaughtering it in Mecca if he is performing umrah. As for chicken meat, one must be confident that it was slaughtered by the hand of a Muslim, because they now permit slaughter by machine. On the airplane and in restaurants, if you have investigated and asked and have learned that the chicken was slaughtered by the hand of a Muslim, you may eat it; otherwise, avoid it-may Allah grant you success. As for the table of dates and drink offered in the Prophet’s Mosque, eat all of it with enjoyment. There is no problem with it-may Allah grant you success. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Ahmed Alhasan Rajab al-Asabb / 1431 AH
