Question 556

If a woman has worn the hijab for twenty years and has a video recording of her wedding celebration, which took place before she began wearing hijab, is it permissible for a man who is not her mahram, or any man, to watch this recording? Is it permissible for any unrelated man to view old photographs of the woman without hijab that are more than twenty years old, when she now wears hijab? Inform us-may Allah reward you-and we are grateful to you. Sender: Muhammad Hakim - Germany

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. It is not permissible for a man who is not her mahram to see her, and it is preferable for her to try to destroy photographs or recordings of this kind-may Allah grant you success in every good. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Ahmed Alhasan Mid-Shaban / 1431 AH
